GrassMaster Installs First Pitch In UK Independent School Sector
When the Whitgift pupils take the field this autumn, they will do so on the first stitched hybrid grass field in the private school sector after White Horse Contactors and GrassMaster Solutions installed the GrassMaster pitch.
The challenge for Whitgift is that space is at a premium, with a finite amount of available land to build pitches at the London based schools’ 45 acre campus. In order to increase playing and training hours whilst also improving the playing characteristics, a highly durable pitch solution was sought.
The first of its kind into an independent school
Following a tender process and in-depth discussions with GrassMaster and partners White Horse Contractors, Whitgift selected GrassMaster as their preferred hybrid solution. This week, the installation of the GrassMaster pitch has begun at the award-winning independent school.
Partnering with leading sports construction experts White Horse Contractors has ensured that the coordination and base preparation has been carried out to the highest professional standard, meaning Whitgift School will benefit from the same elite surface as the stadium pitches at Twickenham and Wembley.
Increased use, increased performance
Whitgift’s pupils will benefit from a consistently flat and stable playing surface thanks to the GrassMaster fibres reinforcing the quick draining sand-based profile of the pitch construction.
Grounds & Estates Manager Daniel Ratling has the benefit of having the in-house expertise of GrassMaster’s international pitch consultant Daniel Duffy at his disposal. Offering maximum comfort and 24/7 support, Whitgift is maximising the value from their recent investment.
The independent school is proud of the levels of participation from their 1500 students and focuses on developing an “active for life” philosophy amongst them. The GrassMaster pitches will build upon this and provide Whitgift’s pupils with exceptional year-round play.
